About Ben.

I was born in South Africa, and my upbringing was uniquely shaped by time spent in both Omaha, Nebraska, and various French-speaking African countries, where I traveled each summer with my father for his work. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Virginia with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Studio Art. My graduate thesis on "Indirect Interpersonal Conflict and its Effects on Children," was acclaimed and awarded a "Highest Honors" distinction.

Following undergraduate work, my journey took me into both the realms of professional artistry, showcasing in prominent galleries across the United States, and psychology research, with publications from esteemed institutions like the University of Georgia, Emory University, Georgia State University, and the University of Denver. I had the privilege of presenting my findings at national conferences while pursuing my MSW from the University of Georgia, where I completed two Master's theses.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of building private practices in both San Francisco and San Luis Obispo. Today, as a husband and father of three, I feel deeply rooted in both my work and this community. San Luis Obispo offers a rare balance of connection, creativity, and calm—a rhythm that aligns beautifully with the kind of steady, meaningful therapy I aim to provide.

Growing up between continents and communities taught me how to adapt quickly, connect deeply, and stay grounded in uncertain terrain. I learned early on that real strength often looks like flexibility—the ability to meet people where they are and hold steady when things feel messy or unclear. That same groundedness shapes how I show up as a therapist, a parent, and an artist. Parenthood has deepened my empathy and sharpened my ability to hold space for complexity; art has trained me to notice what’s unspoken and to trust process over perfection. In therapy, I help clients build clarity, courage, and self-trust—not by offering quick fixes, but by walking with clients through discomfort toward deeper connection with themselves and the people they love. Therapy, like life, is never perfect—but it can be honest, meaningful, and transformative.
