Introducing QBCheck: What It Measures and Why That Matters for You

by Ben Rea LCSW

Welcome.

I’m glad you landed on this page.

You’re here because you were referred for a QbCheck screening, and I’ll be working in collaboration with your therapist to help you gain more clarity in this area.

QbCheck is an online, FDA‑cleared and research‑backed screening for ADHD.

This test is designed to measure the three core features of ADHD: hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention in an objective and structured way. This screening doesn’t give a diagnosis by itself. What it does is offer a clear snapshot of how your brain is functioning right now.

The real value of this kind of screening is that it goes beyond self-report or verbal questionnaires. Because it uses objective metrics (movement tracking + response‑time testing + attention tasks), it can give a clearer, more accurate baseline for comparison.

Those results, combined with your history, experiences, and input from your therapist, help us understand your attention and executive‑function patterns more deeply.

QBCheck

What is QBCheck?

An objective, computer-based test designed to help assess for attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

  • FDA‑cleared for use in people aged 6 to 60 years-old.

  • The test takes about 15–20 minutes, and can be completed on a laptop or desktop with webcam under the supervision of a trained clinician.

  • See Introducing QBCheck for more information.

What Does it Measure?

  • Tracks attention and inattention by having you respond to visual cues on screen, and measuring how accurately and consistently you respond

  • Measures impulsivity by noting incorrect or premature responses.

  • Measures motor activity / hyperactivity by using the webcam to record physical movement with high precision, even detecting very small movements.

The Results

QBCheck produces a standardized report comparing your results to normative data (people of the same age and sex without ADHD), showing where you stand in attention, impulsivity, and activity relative to typical ranges.

I will provide you with a summary of findings and some suggestions for what might be best to focus on in your work with your therapist.

The goal is to learn how to best recognize your strengths, understand your challenges, and make intentional choices about your care.

    • You will receive these results within 5-7 working days of your successfully completed test (if not sooner).

    • No. QbCheck is not a standalone diagnostic tool.

    • A full ADHD diagnosis should always include clinical interviews, rating scales, history, and contextual evaluation in addition to objective data. Test results should always be interpreted by a qualified mental‑health professional within the full context of your functioning, history, and life circumstances.

    • Together with other clinically relevant information, the comparison to the age and gender matched groups will inform your provider about the presence of ADHD symptoms and / or your response to ADHD treatment.

    • QBCheck gives clinicians objective, quantifiable data on core ADHD symptom domains (inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity).

    • This test shows us how your attention, activity, and impulses compare to others your age. When we combine this with your responses on the questionnaire, we can see whether these difficulties meet the criteria professionals use for ADHD.

    • Your results provides a baseline for diagnosis or reassessment, and can also be used to monitor treatment response over time (medication, behavioral therapy, etc.) by repeating the test and comparing results.

    • QBCheck adds clarity to more subjective measures (self‑reports, interviews, rating scales), helping reduce diagnostic uncertainty — especially in complex, borderline, or adult ADHD cases.

  • The webcam does not record images. It only tracks movements.

It might also be worth noting that your test results are anonymized and processed according to all local data protection regulations.

  • The test is designed to be challenging in order to assess your ability to sustain attention, impulse control and level of activity.

You should not be concerned if you feel you did not perform well – there is no such thing as “pass or fail” for this type of tests and the test is not dependent on language, reading or mathematical skills.

  • When interrupted, you can restart the test at a (more) appropriate time and when further interruption can be avoided.

If you experience a technical issue that prevents you from performing the test, please contact me directly, and I will assist you.
